The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry focuses on the prevention and treatment of dental and oral diseases occurring in childhood. The aim of the study program of the Department is to educate dental students in the fields of Preventive Dentistry and Pediatric Dentistry, so that they can completely evaluate, improve and maintain the oral health of children and adolescents in a productive and efficient way.
The first year Preventive Dentistry course is designed to give students knowledge with which in the fourth year they will be able to plan and organize age-related oral hygiene programs not only for children but for adults as well. They can participate in the Dental Screening Days organized for the citizens of Debrecen.
In the fourth year the restorative component of Pediatric Dentistry is introduced at a preclinical level. A series of seminars are presented in the subject of dentistry for children, including behavior management, diagnosis and treatment planning. The intent of the course is to give students the knowledge and skills required to provide basic dental care to children. They complete all treatment procedures used in pediatric dentistry on mannequin or phantom heads and models.
The clinical phase of Pediatric Dentistry is developed in a comprehensive manner during the fifth year, focusing on total patient care for elementary school children in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. The department offers a wide variety of scientific topics for students and as a member of the Student Scientific Research Council with the supervision of the staff members can carry out independent research activity and can give presentation at the Student Scientific Conference.
